Bonfire Night Weekend | Nov 3rd-5th
There are plenty of fabulous displays this year, and we have all your best options right here, so be sure to check it out for all things fireworks and laser light show related – with the occasional funfair and inflatables thrown in.
The Lord Mayor’s Show
This is an ancient tradition filled with British pomp and grandeur, which has taken place every year since 1215. Created to celebrate the city’s right to elect its own mayor as granted by King John, the new Lord Mayor must travel from London City to Westminster to swear his or her allegiance. Today, this means a huge 3 mile procession with flotillas, marching bands and performers galore, as well as the mayor in an ornate 250-year-old coach. There’s a new vintage fair in town with an array of specialist and independent traders, including Mark Hill from the BBC’s Antiques Roadshow. Part of their big Christmas shopping night, the switch-on will no doubt feature a big household name and there will be plenty of festive treats and temptations to be had. A whole range of events including a food-based Christmas market and plenty of entertainment, this is a seasonal staple. There’s plenty for after-work drinks and entertainment as well as family fun, all with a creative seasonal twist. Get your skates on and roll up your sleeves — Skate at Somerset House is back for 2023 with a rink, pop-up Swiss food chalet, bar, vintage shop and curated DJ nights. There are chances to nab cheaper off-peak tickets, but be prepared to pay a little more for event nights like Skate Lates. Glamourous, impressive and unapologetically sexy, this adults-only cabaret show at new Soho venue Underbelly Boulevard has everything from fire-eating contortionists to aerial acrobatic sisters and an award-winning male pole dancer in twelve inch heels. It’s a fabulous evening. Another increasingly popular illumination trail, the stunning grounds of Kew become a world of festive illuminations and delights. Following a 3km trail, visitors can see magical installations, light tunnels and a fire garden. There’s a Victorian fairground and a whole range of food and drink offerings. It’s the last one of the year and the perfect place to pick up some cool merch or a retro console for the geek in your life. Get your big coat on for one of the most picturesque markets in the city. This parade of festive stalls offers views of the Tower Bridge and The Tower of London while you shop. Warm up with mulled wine and spiced hot chocolate and wander amongst the stalls, browsing handmade gifts and foodie treats.Kensington Vintage Fair
