Not to be confused with the Boat Race between Oxford and Cambridge rowing crews, London's River Marathon will see over 250 crews race from Millwall in East London to Ham, Richmond. From young sea scouts to veterans, and from all around the world, crews will race to raise money for charity (and for glory!). Any bridge upstream from the Docklands will afford a good view of the competing boats with the fleet expected to reach Tower Bridge 30 minutes after starting, Waterloo Bridge after an hour and finishing at Richmond after about two to three hours. Most of the craft will proceed upstream at a leisurely pace, so there will be hours between the leaders and the stragglers. Come and support for free, and join the finish party with a DJ, food and drink. For a list of the best viewing spots check the official site but Tower Bridge will probably be busiest, with Battersea Bridge and promenades giving great views. This is just part of a huge programme of events this month from the Totally Thames Festival. Check out our guide for more details.
