Every year since 1946 clowns in full costume and make-up have gathered together at a church service to honour and remember Joseph Grimaldi (1778 -1837), father of the modern day clown, and to celebrate the lives of recently deceased clowns.
The Grimaldi church service is now in its 79th year, and this one looks set to be one of the biggest gatherings yet. You’ll need to get there early to bag one of the limited pews inside the church; even if you don’t, it’s worth seeing the parade of dancing, juggling clowns enter the church and/or catching the show afterwards with the chance of a slice of clown cake.
Venue: All Saints Church, Haggerston Rd, E8 4EZ
