There’s lots going on at the V&A’s exciting new site which opens on May 31st; it’s part museum, part warehouse and part study centre.
Watch behind the scenes via a glass overlook balcony and live-feed screen as the conservators work on museum items, explore over 100 regularly changing mini-displays, choose an object you’d like to examine more closely or just wander the walkways across three floors of stored art and history (note – this is industrial metal grid flooring, so best leave the heels at home to avoid getting stuck!).
One of the many highlights is the largest Pablo Picasso work in the world – the Ballets Russes Le Train Bleu stage cloth – which is now display for the first time in over a decade.
If all that exploring makes you peckish their cafe is run by the legendary E5 Bakehouse, so expect next level breakfasts, pastries and sandwiches.
Ready to go? V&A East Storehouse have put together a visual run-down of what to expect, and made a reel on how to get there. It’s open until 10pm on Thursdays and Saturdays, so that’s your next date night sorted.
