Islington has become rather gentrified in recent years, but there are still plenty of reasons to spend time there. Although chain shops and restaurants might dominant Upper Street at the Angel end, a walk down towards Highbury Corner is a more independent, and interesting affair.
Camden Passage is home to The Breakfast Club café, markets on Wednesdays and Saturdays, and plays host to top free and cheap comedy nights at The Camden Head pub. The Garage on Highbury Corner is a staple of the London’s music scenes with a regular lineup of gigs and club nights.
It’s made for weekend wandering, by day or night: café culture, great pubs, canal walks and one of London’s most unique music venues Islington Union Chapel, which hosts the Daylight Music free gigs on Saturdays throughout the year.
