Built as a Dutch grain barge back in the 1930s, Tamesis Dock is now a quirky local pub. The pub boats friendy staff, reasonable drink prices and a stellar location—right between Lambeth and Vauxhall Bridge. It’s the kind of place you’ll want to bring your friends from out of town.
Your experience could be totally different depending on the time of the year you visit. In colder months, you’ll probably want to warm up below decks. There’s an assortment of sofas, tables, deck chairs and even some kind of hanging egg chair—along with interesting art and a view of the river. In summer, it’s well worth sitting up on the deck. With a prime spot and no neighbours to get in the way, the views of the Thames and the Houses of Parliament are fantastic. Perfect with an ice-cold drink on a sweltering hot day.
Happily, it’s also one of London’s later venues, staying opening until a very healthy 1 am most nights. Just be sure to plan your trip home if you’re leaving after the last tube!
Food and drinks
There’s a fully stocked bar, replete with craft beer and several fancy gins. If you’re just popping in for a sit down while you take an afternoon stroll along the thames, there’s also non-alcoholic options, including some posh green teas. From the galley, expect well executed pub favourites. Think fancy burgers, fish and chips and a few vegan options—mostly under a tenner a pop.
Events at Tamesis Dock
Tamesis Dock hosts regular events—generally live music sessions and unusual club nights. Most regular is the weekly Ukulele Wednesday. It’s a chance for beginners and pros alike dust off their ukes and start making friends.
