In 1814, the River Thames stood still.
Caused by the latest in a series of mini ice-ages that first began in the late 7th century, London’s river froze over; the thick ice brought London’s river traffic, and the businesses that depended on it, to a standstill. Bankside’s typically chaotic but entrepreneurial response was to hold a Frost Fair, where trade, food and drink (and a bit of naughtiness) took to the ice. What could possibly go wrong?
Join former museum director Antony Robbins, AKA Mr Londoner, to explore all the fun of the frost fair through the decades. Tours, organised by Better Bankside, a Business Improvement District (BID) in Southwark, are free but booking is essential @Meetmrlondoner.
