Annual, flipping ace pancake race up and down Dray Walk, off Brick Lane on Shrove Tuesday. Participants in this silly challenge are not there just to cause a little mayhem among the city workers, creative types and start-up bods on their lunch break (though that’s a fun bonus). This is a fundraiser for the London Air Ambulance, who provide air emergency and advanced trauma treatment to thousands of people from their base at Whitechapel’s Royal London Hospital.
There are prizes for the best dressed, and best behaved (not sure how they judge that one!)and the winning team will be awarded the winner’s engraved frying pan. Bring your own pan to race with, but there will be pancakes for all. Teams of four will take turns to toss their pancakes a couple of times as they run.
If you feel like giving a crepe for a good cause, don your best fancy dress and enter your team by emailing info@alternativearts.co.uk and get ready to batter the competition. You can sign up on the day if you bring a donation.
