Winter Light at the Southbank Centre

Some new works set the Southbank Centre aglow for the free art trail Winter Light 2025. Nathaniel Rackowe’s site specific installation Desire Lines illuminates the Thames tree canopy with geometric shapes, whilst Lee Broom’s imposing Beacon outside the Royal Festival Hall has a twist; as Big Ben strikes each hour, the installation’s illuminated shades build slowly into a sweeping wave of light.

The exhibition features work by Samia Halaby, David Batchelor, Rafaël Rozendaal, France Lise McGurn, Jakob Kvist, Nathaniel Rackowe, Squire & Partners, Liz West, Oteki and Tavares Strachan.
Each artist explores topics at the forefront of society – individual and collective identity, the environment and technology – with the use of light and colour.

It is free to wander round, so get your big coat and head out to see these artworks light up the night.

Organisers may cancel events, alter schedules, or change admission requirements without notice. Always check official sites before heading to an event.
