Looking for an affordable drop in yoga class in central London can feel like a bit of a stretch sometimes (pun intended). But thankfully, there are a few low cost and drop-in options even in the bustle of central London. So if you’re looking to try a few different classes out, find somewhere to practice around work, or you’re just visiting for a few days – here’s our roundup of the places to drop your mat in Zone 1.
Unless otherwise indicated here, the yoga studios mentioned here are suitable for all levels and experience.
Central YMCA KX- King’s Cross
YMCA is one of London’s most affordable chain gyms, and it’s also one of the cheapest places to practice Yoga in central Londo. YMCA KX has a decent timetable of Yoga from beginners to intermediate Hatha Yoga and Vinyasa (Hatha a slower practice with more focus on breath work, static poses and stretching, whereas Vinyasa is a more constant flow of movement). Classes are popular, and you have to pre-book online, although there are waiting lists and the pay-as-go rate is around £11.00, if you find a class you like the 10 class pack is only £8.50 a session. It’s a great option on multiple fronts, including price point, timetable options and variety.
More Yoga, Soho
Soho’s More Yoga makes the rather bold claim of being ‘London’s Most Affordable Yoga Studios’. While we can’t verify this, looking at the offering for newbies, it’s certainly a contender.
There are studios across London as well in Soho, which is situated in Marshall Street Leisure Centre. The best intro offer is £10.00 for 10 consecutive days, so you can take a class a day for a quid per session. The class passes are also pretty good value with 4, 6 and 8 class options which work out at under £7.00 per class valid from between 1 and 3 months. More Yoga offers different styles of Yoga including Morning Flow, Vinyasa Flow and various types of hot Yoga. Classes are either 45 or 60 minutes and run from pretty much dawn until dusk (and beyond, in winter, the last class is 8pm-9pm).
Frame was started in 2009 with a goal to get people moving in a way that doesn’t feel like a chore. It also has a timetable designed to be flexible and easily fit around your day, and levels from gentle and slow Restore & Release and Yin Yoga to more fast-paced, sweat-inducing Dynamic Vinyasa Flow classes. It has studios across London, but in central you can choose between King’s Cross and Victoria. Price-wise, drop in classes cost £16.00 (book on the day), and you can also take advantage of the intro offer of £20.00 for 2 classes in 2 weeks.
Free Yoga and Meditation at Friends House, Covent Garden
If you’re interested in engaging with more spiritual or restorative Yoga practice, then join Sahaja Yoga Meditation at Friends House in Covent Garden. The weekly class focuses more on the meditation side of Yoga, so this isn’t going to be the one for you if you want a full on stretch.
But, you also won’t need a mat or even any special clothing. The practice involves sitting and connecting with what is called ‘thoughtless awareness’, so you can escape the noise of the outside world and focus on your breathing – ideal for anyone whose favourite part of Yoga is the savasana relaxation at the end.
Digme Fitness, Covent Garden
Formerly known as Another Space, Digme Fitness is on the more slick, bougie end of the exercise spectrum, and offers various classes including HIIT and Spin as well as Yoga. But its Yoga offering is varied and suitable for all levels and preferences. Classes include Rocket Yoga, Power Yoga and Hot Flow Yoga, for those who wish to sweat or fancy a more intense class. There is also a more gentle and calming vinyasa flow practice, restore yoga and even pregnancy yoga. Classes are either 45 or 75 minutes long, and you can join a drop in class or pay for multi-class sessions.
