An event that should be dubbed ‘The No Penny Opera’ get a fix of high culture without spending anything in Trafalgar Square. Crowds can gather to screened performances of live opera and ballet from the Royal Opera House as dusk falls over central London.
There will be three iconic productions in June and July. Wednesday 7th June is The Dream/Symphonic Variations/Marguerite and Armand. On Wednesday 4th July, catch Verdi’s La Traviata. The final performance on Friday 14th July is Pucinni’s three act opera Turandot.
As with all free events, early arrival is recommended. You’re welcome to pack a picnic (but should bring plastic rather than glass container) and do bring something comfy to sit on, as these will be long performances and concrete isn’t comfortable! Get cosy with a blanket too, and a raincoat is probably a good idea too, just in case.
