East Central (postcodes EC1, EC2, EC3 & EC4) is arguably the area where old and new London co-exist in the best way. Head to Tower Hill for one London’s most historic buildings, The Tower Of London. Across the river is the iconic, modern City Hall (or Beehive), which members of the public can access for exhibitions or to visit the cafe. Nearby St Katherine’s Dock is great for outdoor dining when the sun shines.
Barbican Centre and Estate is a Brutalist micro-city in itself. It’s an architectural landmark, and home to exhibition centres, residential flats, cinemas, theatre restaurants and a world apart from corporate atmosphere of ‘The City’ of London, nearby.
Clerkenwell and Farringdon are home to Smithfield and Exmouth markets, and perfect for weekend wanderings when the streets are quieter.
